Torkel Knutsson is a screenwriter, director, producer, actor, professor in filmmaking and musician from Stockholm, Sweden. Best known for the Netflix movie success, “Naked” starring Marlon Wayans, Regina Hall, Dennis Haysbert and JT Jackson in the lead roles. A remake of the Swedish comedy, “Naked Again"("Naken"). Torkel directed and co-wrote the original Swedish version "Naken." One of the most viewed Swedish movie worldwide. It had a reported 5.5 million viewers in Sweden from the combined theatrical, television and home entertainment releases, (Scanbox) and sold to over 60 countries (Nonstop Sales). According to the China Film Group, it was a success in China with an estimated 250 million viewers. Torkel is currently living in both Stockholm, Sweden and Los Angeles, California developing multiple projects. He recently wrote and produced a new movie called, "Get Lucky" with JT Jackson playing the lead
Early Career
Torkel was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. There he attended Brikagårdens folkhögskola acting school, Royal Dramatic School of Acting(DI) and obtained a Masters in Film from Berghs School of Communication. At Berghs School of Communication, Torkel won multiple awards in film.
Torkel Knutsson started his movie career as an actor being strangled to death in a movie by famous Swedish author Torbjörn Säve.
Torkel then starred in many other Movies as a lead actor such as, “När Arne Larmade Brandkåren/When Arne Alerted the Fire Brigade”, “ Då är man nog ganska rädd/Then You are Probably Quite Afraid” and “Rymmare/Fugitive”, “Precis Som Förut/Just as Before”.
Torkel was awarded best actor for his role in “När Arne Larmade Brandkåren”/“When Arne Alerted the Fire Brigade” at the International Film Festival in Bratislava, Slovakia. Torkel also worked as a theater actor on many stages in Sweden.
Torkel directed over 30 music videos, among them “Om och om igen” for the Swedish group Pelle Almgren och Wow Liksom. This song was one of the greatest summer hits of all time in Sweden. Torkel wrote and directed Europe’s biggest fire circus, The Burnt Out Punks and their show, "The Stockholm Syndrome." The Burnt Out Punks toured Europe for many years.
Music Career
Torkel is a musician in the underground rock scene in Sweden. With Bands like Deep Torkel and The Stoodes, Deep Torkel and Suzie beats them All and Deep Torkel and The Rock n' Roll Stars. He has released 10 albums.
Other works
In addition to his career in the film and music industry, Knutsson worked as CEO and Senior Partner at the Advertising agency, Family Business. He directed and produced campaigns on Fashion TV and MTV.
The agency won multiple awards for his work on campaigns for Absolute Vodka.
Torkel works as a professor in screenwriting and filmmaking at multiple Film and Media schools, among them Kulturama, Kaggeholms folkhögskola and Berghs School of Communication.
Philanthropy
Torkel is on the board of two American nonprofit organizations, The Danielle Frankl Foundation and Freedom and Growth Foundation which provides mentoring, educational scholarships and various outreach programs helping to alleviate homelessness and assist people recovering from drug addiction.
Naken is the Swedish movie about the soon-to-be-married Anders. In order to win his bride, he has to relive the same day again and again in order to change the outcome of his failed wedding day.
